The Anti-Encroachment Department of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) carried out a demolition drive in Sector 9, Airoli, on Wednesday. The operation targeted unauthorized tin-sheet hutments and permanent structures built on approximately 250 square feet of encroached land.
A survey conducted in early February identified the illegal structures, prompting CIDCO to issue a notice to the occupants.
“These premises were being used for unauthorized residential and commercial activities. As per the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, such constructions are subject to legal action,” said an official from CIDCO’s Anti-Encroachment Department.
The illegal structures were located at Survey Numbers 85 and 334 in Sector 9.
CIDCO’s notice directed the owner of the unauthorized construction to appear in person within seven days at the Chief Controller/Controller’s office, Unauthorized Constructions Department, Raigad Bhavan, CBD Belapur. The owner was required to submit documents proving land ownership and construction approvals. If unable to attend in person, they were instructed to send the necessary documents within the same timeframe and obtain an acknowledgment.
The notice further stated that failure to respond—either by not appearing in person or by not submitting the required documents—would be considered an absence of any legal claim, leading to further action under the regulations.
Since no response was received within the stipulated period, CIDCO proceeded with the demolition on Wednesday.
