PANVEL: A newly commissioned Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) substation at Godrej City in Khanavale, under the Panvel Rural division, has become the first of the power utility’s substations in Raigad district to receive ISO 9001:2015 certification.
The certificate for the 20 MVA, 33/22 kV substation was formally handed over on Monday, October 19, by Dilip Jagdale (IAS), Joint Managing Director of Mahavitaran’s Konkan Regional Division. Jagdale also inaugurated the substation and the newly set-up Khanavale branch office on the occasion.

Built for Panvel’s growing power needs
Panvel is urbanising fast, with several housing projects by well-known developers and other development works coming up in the area. Power demand is expected to rise as a result. The new 20 MVA substation has been set up keeping this in mind, and will strengthen the supply network, help plan for the growing load and give consumers better quality power.
ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard for quality management systems. According to Mahavitaran, the certification recognises the quality management and set procedures followed in running the substation. The utility called the certification and the new branch office an important step in strengthening its infrastructure and expanding consumer-focused services.
‘Work with a sense of ownership’
Praising the officers and staff of the Panvel Rural division, Jagdale said, “This fine and important facility has come up through the tireless efforts of the officers and employees of the Panvel Rural division, and through their repair and maintenance work. All of you deserve praise. Raigad is the pride of Maharashtra. The district is seeing development on a large scale, and people prefer to live where good facilities and quality infrastructure are available.”
“Getting ISO certification is a very challenging process, and you have achieved it through hard work, determination and dedication. But to sustain this success, everyone must take responsibility for this facility and the system with a sense of ownership. If every officer and employee works with the feeling that ‘this division is mine’, we can take this success even higher,” he said.
Jagdale also praised the work done by Mahavitaran’s Bhandup zone under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, and said the good work the company does for consumers must reach the public. “When people come to know about the good work we have done, the organisation’s image improves and public trust grows stronger,” he said.
‘Keeping the certification is the bigger challenge’
Chief guest Sanjay Patil, Chief Engineer of Mahavitaran’s Bhandup zone, said several modern projects are coming up in Raigad district and they expect uninterrupted power supply. “To give consumers better service, building new infrastructure is not enough. Maintaining it properly is equally important. That needs proper earthing, strict compliance with electrical safety standards and procedures, regular upkeep of the required records and proper energy audits,” he said.
“As difficult as it is to get ISO certification, it is even more challenging to keep it consistently. A substation plays the same role in the power system as the heart does in our body. The next ten years will be a golden period of development for Raigad district, and the energy sector will play a key role in it. We are building new substations to provide uninterrupted service, but keeping them running efficiently and maintaining them properly is also our responsibility,” Patil added.
Pen circle Superintending Engineer Dhanraj Bikkad, Panvel Rural division Executive Engineer Diwakar Deshmukh, Bhandup zone Executive Engineer (Civil) Devendra Gillurkar, Executive Engineers Shailesh Mahajan, Ramkrishna Patil, Bhagat and Sali, Umesh Chavan, Sanjay Thakur and other sub-divisional and branch officers and staff of Mahavitaran were present.
