The Government will open day cancer care centres in every district of the country within the next three years. Union Health Minister JP Nadda announced on Tuesday; two-hundred-day care cancer centres will be opened in 2025-26.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Nadda emphasized the effectiveness of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme in cancer treatment, noting that treatment of cancer patients starts within 30 days from the screening in India, which is a significant achievement. He said the government is working to provide affordable and quality healthcare under the National Health Mission.
The country’s largest cancer hospital, with 700 beds, is located in Jhajjar and is equipped with modern facilities. The upcoming ‘Day Cancer Care Centres’ will also be equipped with advanced medical facilities, enhancing their utility and accessibility.
Current Status of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme
- As of January 31, 2025, more than 18.5 crore treatments have been provided under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
- Of these, 14.2 crore treatments have been conducted in government hospitals.
- Around 4.3 crore treatments have been availed in private hospitals.
- The scheme is currently implemented through 125 state trusts, seven insurance-based models, and two hybrid models.
- Each family is provided health coverage of up to Rs 15 lakh under this scheme.
- The scheme benefits 155 crore people across the country.
- A total of 12.37 crore families are availing benefits under this scheme.
- Around 16 crore senior citizens above the age of 70 have been covered.
- The socio-economic status of elderly beneficiaries is not considered while providing coverage under the scheme.
