Panvel Municipal Corporation Launches Strict Action Against Property Tax Defaulters

Date:

Panvel: In a major move to tackle outstanding property tax payments, the Panvel Municipal Corporation has begun implementing stringent measures against defaulters. Following the instructions of Commissioner Mangesh Chitle, the corporation has initiated the process of issuing pre-seizure notices and warrants to establishments with unpaid property taxes. Furthermore, the seizure process has already started for those with significant arrears.

Around 3.5 lakh properties across all four municipal wards have been assessed for property tax, with defaulters being targeted for immediate action. The property tax department’s seizure team has already distributed 447 pre-seizure notices and issued 27 warrants, including one targeting M/s Wallrec Modular Systems in Taloja.

The Municipal Corporation has reported a collection of ₹326 crore since the start of the current financial year in April, underlining the critical importance of property tax as the primary revenue source for local government operations. To accelerate the recovery process, property tax officers, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, have been instructed to work without breaks, ensuring timely payment from all property owners.

Citizens are urged to pay their dues promptly to avoid penalties, as unpaid property taxes accrue a 2% monthly interest. For added convenience, the Municipal Corporation has launched the ‘PMC TAX APP’ for online payments, and property owners can also visit the official website, www.panvelmc.org, for easy payment options. For assistance or inquiries, citizens can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340.

This move is part of the Municipal Corporation’s ongoing efforts to ensure financial accountability and continued development in Panvel, with further legal actions, including property seizures and arrests, planned for non-compliant property owners
