Water Crisis in Kharghar: CIDCO Promises Relief by July

Date:

Navi Mumbai – Even as the summer season has begun, residents in Kharghar are struggling with an acute water shortage. Many housing societies are spending lakhs of rupees each month to purchase water through tankers, exacerbating their woes, especially in the scorching summer months.

Several residents alleged that they face water scarcity throughout the year. Mangal Kamble, a Kharghar resident and social worker stated that there is an uneven water supply in Kharghar. While developers get water for construction, residents face challenges to meet their daily needs.

A delegation of residents met the Join MD Ganesh Deshmukh and he assured residents that several ongoing projects would be completed by July, increasing the daily water supply to the area.

According to CIDCO, to address the crisis, they are undertaking important projects under the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme. These include:

  • Break Pressure Tank Work: An alternative arrangement near Dighati village is expected to be completed by March.
  • Pipeline Expansion: The 1,500 mm cement concrete water pipeline running along the Bhogeshwari River between Ganpatiwadi and Tarankhop is being replaced with an 1,800 mm MS pipeline, set for completion by July.

Once completed, these projects will supply an additional 10 to 15 million liters per day (MLD) to Kharghar.
