THANE: Residents of 20 areas in Thane, including Kopri-Anand Nagar, Jambhli Naka, the Masunda Lake area and Pachpakhadi, should boil and filter their drinking water for the next seven days, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said on Wednesday. The civic body issued the advisory as a precaution because the quality of water supplied to these areas may be affected.
These areas get their water through connections on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Pise-Panjrapur pipeline, and not from TMC’s own supply.
Why the advisory
The BMC has completed repairs to compartment No. 2 of its master balancing reservoir at Yewai, part of the Pise-Panjrapur water system that supplies Mumbai. The compartment was put back into service on Wednesday, October 28.
According to the BMC, this may affect the quality of water supplied to Mumbai city, the eastern suburbs, and the parts of the Thane and Bhiwandi municipal areas that receive water from the BMC. As a precaution for public health, the BMC has appealed to citizens to boil and filter their drinking water for seven days.
Following the BMC’s notice, the TMC has asked residents of the affected areas to take the necessary care while using water.
