Taloja Industrial Estate Under PMC Radar for Unpaid Property Taxes

Date:

Panvel– The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated strict action on industrial units in Taloja Industrial Estate, for failing to pay property tax. The civic body seized the property of an industrial unit for failing to pay property tax amounting to Rs 2.20 crore. The civic body has already served notice to 50 major defaulters in Taloja Industrial Estate.
The Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale directed officials to seize and confiscate the company’s building and finished goods if they fail to pay taxes.
The operation was carried by a team led by Divisional Ward Officer Amar Patil Navade, along with Recovery Officers Harishchandra Kadu, Sanjay Deshmukh, Dilip Sawale, and other municipal staff. Personnel from the Taloja Police Station also assisted in ensuring a smooth execution of the seizure.
PMC has initiated a crackdown on property tax defaulters by issuing pre-seizure notices and warrants. Following the Commissioner’s directives, the Property Tax Department has already served notices to 50 major defaulters in Taloja Industrial Estate. These companies have been given a seven-day deadline to clear their dues, failing which, the municipal corporation will proceed with seizure actions.
According to PMC records, approximately 3.5 lakh properties fall under the jurisdiction of property tax assessment. So far, the municipal corporation has collected Rs 324 crore in the current financial year, starting from April. Deputy Commissioner of Property Tax, Swarup Kharge, along with his team, has urged all property owners to clear their outstanding dues at the earliest to avoid legal consequences. The authorities have warned that failure to pay property tax will result in further seizure and attachment proceedings.
The municipal corporation has the legal authority to seize and auction movable and immovable properties of defaulters under Section 128 and Schedule D, Chapter 8, Taxation Rule 47 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. As part of this enforcement, PMC’s seizure squad, led by Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, has been actively conducting attachment operations across Kharghar, Navade, Kalamboli, Kamothe, Panvel, and New Panvel.
Since property tax is one of the primary revenue sources for civic development projects, the municipal corporation has urged citizens to pay their dues on time. An interest penalty of 2% per month is levied on outstanding property tax, further increasing the financial burden on defaulters. To facilitate easy payments, PMC has introduced an online payment system through the “PMC TAX APP” and the official website www.panvelmc.org. Property owners seeking assistance or clarification can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340.
