Panvel: With the financial year nearing its end, property tax collection under the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has surged significantly. A total of 13 special teams are collecting Rs3 to Rs4 crore daily.
The civic body has already surpassed last year’s tax collection record, and daily figures continue to rise, reflecting an increased willingness among citizens to pay their property taxes.
On March 19, PMC set a new benchmark by collecting a record Rs370 crore for the current financial year. As of March 21, an additional Rs3.34 crore has been collected, bringing the total property tax revenue to Rs376 crore. Following the directives of Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, the Tax Collection and Assessment Department has intensified action against defaulters through seizure and confiscation teams, leading to record-breaking recoveries.
Furthermore, a petition filed by the Taloja Manufacturers Association and other entities in the Hon’ble High Court has been dismissed, strengthening the civic body’s position. With this legal backing, PMC has shifted into ‘Action Mode’.
Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, stringent measures have been taken against tax defaulters. Collection squads across all municipal zones, led by Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, are ensuring record-high recoveries.
Meanwhile, PMC continues to urge citizens to pay their property taxes on time, as delayed payments incur a 2% monthly penalty. To facilitate hassle-free online payments, PMC has developed a ‘Citizen Property Tax Payment Guide’ and launched the ‘PMC TAX APP’ for mobile users. Property owners can also pay via the official website www.panvelmc.org. For any queries, they can contact the toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340.
