In a major digital leap aimed at enhancing public assistance and real-time communication, Mumbai Police has activated official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handles for all local police stations across the city. This move follows the existing presence of the official Mumbai Police and Commissioner of Police handles on the platform and now allows citizens to directly connect with their respective local police stations via X.

Now, Mumbaikars can report complaints, share concerns, or raise emergency alerts directly through a tweet—eliminating the need to physically visit a police station. This initiative is part of Mumbai Police’s growing digital presence, which already spans platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Citizens can expect swift responses and increased accessibility, thanks to this step.
The initiative was launched in April 2025 alongside the inauguration of high-tech police vehicles and cyber labs by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. It aims to offer real-time responsiveness and boost efficiency in handling citizen issues.
It will encourage two-way communication
This tech-forward move is expected to play a critical role in curbing crime. Whether it’s reporting a traffic violation, a suspicious activity, or any public safety issue, immediate action becomes more feasible. The government’s digital-first approach also encourages two-way communication, particularly with the youth, promoting awareness and accountability within the system.
Engaging Through Memes, Videos & Pop Culture
Mumbai Police has already made its mark on Instagram and Facebook through meme-based awareness campaigns. These posts address issues like cyber fraud, phishing, traffic rules, and women’s safety in a relatable, youth-friendly tone—providing safety tips and raising awareness in a compelling way.
However, the misuse of traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline during the Salman Khan threat case did highlight challenges in tech adoption. This underscores the need for increased vigilance and more robust tech protocols moving forward.
“We have launched official X handles for each police station to ensure local-level responsiveness, accessibility, and quick action. These handles will be monitored by the respective DCP zones for efficient and timely intervention.”

How to Connect with Your Local Police Station
To reach your police station on X, simply type ‘@po- [station name]ps’. For example, if you reside in Tilak Nagar and wish to report suspicious activity, you can directly tag @TilakNagarPS and file your complaint using that handle.
With this move, connecting with Mumbai Police has never been easier, making the city’s law enforcement more citizen-friendly, responsive, and digitally empowered.
