Life-Saving Treatment for Premature Baby in Kharghar Hospital: Expert Doctors Make a Difference

Date:

Kharghar– A team of expert doctors from Medicover Hospital, Kharghar, led by neonatologist Dr. Tanmesh Kumar Sahu and pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Rachna Keshwani, has successfully treated a newborn baby born prematurely at just 30 weeks and suffering from diabetes. The baby, weighing only 1.1 kg, was given a second chance at life after receiving 25 days of specialized treatment.

The parents from Navi Mumbai were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child. However, the mother, who had gestational diabetes, unexpectedly experienced a rupture of amniotic fluid at 30 weeks of pregnancy, leading to an emergency C-section. The baby was immediately admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to respiratory distress and underdeveloped lungs.

Under the careful monitoring of the expert team, the baby was stabilized and gradually started breastfeeding. During routine monitoring, doctors discovered that, contrary to the typical hypoglycemia seen in diabetic mothers’ babies, the infant had dangerously high blood sugar levels of 300 mg/dL, a condition requiring immediate medical attention.

Diabetes in newborns, particularly in premature infants, is a rare and complex condition that requires precision in diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Rachna Keshwani stressed the importance of skill and expertise in managing such cases. The team at Medicver Hospital not only saved the baby’s life but also provided training to the parents on how to manage their child’s condition going forward.
