BMC Targets May 31 Deadline for Road Concretization, Says AMC Abhijit Bangar

Date:

Mumbai– Mumbai– The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set a May 31, 2025 deadline for the completion of all ongoing concrete roads. To ensure the timely and high-quality completion of concrete roadworks in the city, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar conducted a late-night inspection of the Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) work in the eastern suburbs early this week.

The inspection was part of an ongoing review of Mumbai’s extensive road concretization project, covering various city areas, including the eastern and western suburbs. The inspection team included IIT Mumbai professors, engineers from the Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) project, and representatives from the Quality Management and Control (QMA) institution. Mr. Bangar reviewed the project’s progress and issued necessary directives to ensure quality standards are met.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already completed concrete work on approximately 1,333 kilometers of roads across the city. The remaining roads are being developed in two phases, with a strict deadline set for May 31, 2025, before the onset of monsoon. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has instructed that the work be expedited while maintaining top-quality standards.

During his visit, Mr. Bangar inspected key concretization works at Agarwadi Gaothan Road and Late Sardar Gurubachan Singh Bal Marg in the M-East ward. He was accompanied by Chief Engineer (Roads & Traffic) Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer (Eastern Suburbs) Sanjay Sonawane, IIT professors, and quality control experts.

The inspection focused on technical aspects such as concrete temperature checks, slump tests, and flexural beam sample casting. Mr. Bangar emphasized the need for groove cutting within 8 to 12 hours of concreting and recommended real-time monitoring of humidity and wind conditions via mobile apps.

He also directed IIT to conduct specialized workshops for engineers, contractors, and quality control representatives to enhance expertise in road construction. The BMC aims to complete all ongoing concretization projects on time, ensuring durable and weather-resistant roads for Mumbai.
