Continuous rains delayed the blooming season, the plateau has now started to witness early flowers as the weather clears. Flower species such as Terda, Seetachi Asave, Sonki, Chavar, Gend, and Topli Karvi have begun blooming in scattered patches.
Satara: The Kaas Plateau in Satara district, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, is renowned for its breathtaking display of seasonal wildflowers. Each year, millions of visitors from across the world visit the plateau to witness its unique biodiversity and natural beauty.
This year, the much-awaited Kaas season will officially begin on September 4. In preparation, District Collector Santosh Patil carried out an on-site inspection of the plateau along with officials from various departments.
Key discussions during the review meeting centered around improving management for the upcoming tourist rush. To tackle heavy holiday traffic congestion, authorities are considering the implementation of a one-way traffic system to ensure smoother movement and a better experience for visitors.
Online Booking Mandatory
This year, entry on holidays will be strictly through online booking at www.kas.ind.in.
Walk-in visitors without prior booking will not be allowed. The entry fee has been set at rs. 150 per person, while the guide fee is rs. 200. To reduce vehicular traffic, shuttle buses will transport tourists from the parking area to the plateau.
Enhanced Facilities & Safety Measures
CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor tourist activities and prevent damage to flowers. Offenders will face fines. The number of toilets has been increased, and arrangements have been made for drinking water, first aid, and volunteers to assist visitors.
For traffic regulation, one-way routes have been designated via Andhari-Kolghar-Sahyadrinagar-Medha-Satara or Kaas Lake-Vanjulwadi-Ghatai-Satara. Instructions have been issued to repair damaged and pothole-ridden roads promptly. Adequate police deployment will also be ensured for visitor safety.
