Controlling diabetes during pregnancy is not only crucial for the mother’s health but also plays a significant role in ensuring a healthier future for the child. Effective management of gestational diabetes can help prevent the onset of diabetes in the next generation. Therefore, there is a pressing need for widespread public awareness on the issue, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the 12th edition of the international conference ‘Hello Diabetes,’ jointly organized by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India, Indian Podiatry Association, Indian Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Association of Physicians of India, and the All India Association for Advanced Research in Obesity.
Highlighting the rising concern of diabetes and obesity in India, Fadnavis emphasized that India must not become the diabetes capital of the world. He added that public awareness initiatives like this conference play a vital role in addressing this growing health crisis.
Fadnavis also mentioned that various health campaigns, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Fit India Movement,’ are aimed at tackling lifestyle-related diseases and encouraging people to adopt healthier habits to stay free from diabetes.
