In the ongoing exchange of fire between India and Pakistan in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, 23-year-old soldier Murli Shriram Naik, a resident of Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area, was martyred. Murli bravely laid down his life while giving a befitting reply to Pakistan’s firing, sacrificing himself for the motherland.

Originally hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Murli’s father, Shriram Naik, works and resides in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Murli joined the Indian Army in 2022 and received his training at the Deolali Army Camp in Nashik. His initial postings were in Assam and later in Punjab. He was recently deployed to the Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
At around 3:30 AM on Friday, Murli was on duty at the Line of Control when he was hit by Pakistani firing and attained martyrdom. As soon as the news of his death reached his family in Mumbai and his ancestral village in Andhra Pradesh, a wave of grief swept through both places.
The Army has informed the family that the mortal remains of the martyred soldier will be brought to his native village on the evening of May 10, where he will be cremated with full military honors.
Following the news, a large number of people gathered to pay their respects in Kamaraj Nagar, Ghatkopar, and in his ancestral village. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu paid tribute to Murli Naik and expressed his condolences to the family. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde also offered heartfelt tributes, stating, “Shiv Sena and the government stand firmly with the family of the brave martyr.”
