In view of the rising summer temperatures, the Water Supply Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has urged citizens to use water judiciously and avoid wastage. The civic body has warned that any complaints regarding water wastage could lead to the disconnection of the water supply to the concerned building or society.
Appeal to Conserve Water
TMC has specifically asked residents not to use potable water for washing vehicles, to avoid keeping taps running while performing tasks, and to practice balanced water usage. According to the Water Supply Department, water levels in reservoirs are dropping daily due to the intense heat. Levels in wells and borewells have also seen a significant decline, making it crucial to conserve water until the onset of the monsoon season.
The civic body has also advised against the use of showers and bathtubs for bathing, suggested using dual-flush systems in toilets, and discouraged unnecessary water storage or discarding stored water. The use of drinking water for swimming pools in housing societies has been strictly discouraged, along with frequent water changes in these pools.
Residents have been asked to wash clothes once a week instead of daily, and to handwash smaller daily-wear garments using minimal water. TMC has recommended operating washing machines only once or twice a week, and only when fully loaded, to save water.
Additionally, the water discharged from washing clothes can be collected and reused for flushing toilets, cleaning bathrooms and floors, washing cars, and watering gardens.
The TMC emphasized that small efforts by individuals can make a big difference in combating the looming water crisis.
