Panvel Medical Tourism: New Opportunities in Healthcare and Employment

Date:

In a significant move to promote medical tourism in the region, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently held a high-level meeting with representatives from major hospitals operating within its jurisdiction. The meeting, convened at the PMC headquarters, was held under the directives of Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale and chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate.

The initiative follows a directive from the Union Ministry of Tourism aimed at enhancing India’s position as a global hub for medical tourism. The meeting focused on formulating a comprehensive policy and roadmap to improve healthcare services and attract national and international patients.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vidhate emphasized the dual benefits of the initiative—boosting local healthcare infrastructure and generating employment opportunities for skilled youth in the region. He added that the corporation is committed to promoting affordable and high-quality healthcare services to patients from across the globe, while also creating avenues for medical education for both domestic and international students.

Key discussions included immediate measures to facilitate medical tourism and plans to list hospital services on the PMC’s official website. In the long term, the municipal body also intends to launch a dedicated portal for medical tourism to enhance public awareness and streamline information access.

“With the Navi Mumbai International Airport nearing completion, the region is poised to become a key destination for global healthcare services. This meeting marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between the civic body and local hospitals to position Panvel as a medical tourism hub,” said Dr. Vidhate.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with stakeholders expressing optimism and commitment towards making Panvel a prominent name in the field of medical tourism.

Prominent attendees included Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi, Medical Officers Dr. Suresh Pandit and Dr. Manisha Chandak, Communicable Disease Officer Dr. Akash Thasale, along with representatives from several reputed hospitals such as Mitra Hospital, Laxmi Eye Care, Medicover, Ashtavinayak Hospital, Lifeline Hospital, Motherhood Hospital, and White House Hospital.
