NMMC Property Tax Collection Reaches Rs 800 Crore, New Rs 1,200 Crore Target Set

Date:

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has successfully achieved its Rs 800 crore property tax collection target for the financial year 2024-25. This milestone comes despite public holidays on March 29, 30, and 31 for Gudi Padwa and Eid, during which civic officials worked diligently to maximize revenue, said Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.

To celebrate this achievement, officials and employees of the Property Tax Department raised a symbolic ‘Gudi’ at the NMMC headquarters in Belapur on Gudi Padwa, reinforcing their commitment to efficient tax collection.

As part of its efforts to boost compliance, NMMC introduced several initiatives, including the ‘Abhay’ scheme launched on March 10, 2025, which offered a 50% waiver on penalties for overdue property tax. The corporation also implemented a new online tax payment system and took stringent measures against defaulters, such as issuing notices, disconnecting water connections, and employing traditional drumming outside non-payers’ homes to increase awareness. Special tax payment counters were also operational on holidays to facilitate payments.

Looking forward, NMMC has set an ambitious target of Rs 1,200 crore in property tax collection for the financial year 2025-26. Commissioner Shinde expressed confidence that with strategic planning and execution, the corporation will achieve this goal, further enhancing Navi Mumbai’s financial strength.
