In a significant achievement for urban healthcare, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has successfully established 100% of its approved Urban Ayushman Health Centers, earning recognition from the central government. The National Health Mission Commissioner, Amgothu Sri Ranga Nayak, acknowledged PMC’s outstanding performance in an official letter of appreciation.
As part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in densely populated urban areas and slum-like settlements, the 15th Finance Commission had approved 2,232 Urban Ayushman Health Centers across various states. The initiative aims to monitor and control the spread of diseases while ensuring affordable and world-class healthcare services.
Under this scheme, 9 Urban Ayushman Health Centers were sanctioned for Panvel Municipal Corporation. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, and with the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate and Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi, PMC successfully operationalized all centers well before the stipulated deadline, achieving its goal ahead of schedule.
Overcoming challenges such as site selection and staff recruitment, the municipal corporation has demonstrated a strong commitment to public health. The central government, in its letter, commended PMC’s achievement and praised its officials and staff for their dedicated efforts. The letter also highlighted that PMC has set a benchmark in successfully launching healthcare institutions in urban areas despite various challenges.
During the General Body Meeting, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale extended special congratulations to the Medical Health Department, acknowledging their outstanding contribution to public healthcare.
