India’s first 12-Hour Mobile Bathroom for Women in Kandivali

Date:

A mobile bathroom specially for women was inaugurated in Kandivali. This initiative, a first-of-its-kind in the city, aims to address the lack of proper bathing facilities for women living in slum areas.

The mobile bathroom project was conceptualized by Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha during his tenure as the Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District and implemented through the District Planning Committee.

The facility, operational for 12 hours daily, consists of a bus equipped with five bathrooms featuring showers, basins, and a water capacity of 2,100 liters. Additionally, it includes two dryer machines for drying clothes. Power supply for the bus will be provided through generators.

“Women in slum areas face significant challenges in accessing safe and clean bathing facilities,” said Minister Lodha. One step in meeting their needs and maintaining their dignity is this mobile restroom. This project will soon be replicated in other areas of the city.

To ensure efficient management and prevent water wastage, female staff have been appointed to oversee operations. Women using the facility will be allotted five to ten minutes each, with an automated system to cut off the water supply.

This initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to women in the area and set a precedent for similar efforts in other underprivileged localities.
