Controversial preacher, who belongs to Mumbai, Zakir Naik has once again stirred outrage with remarks equating single women to prostitutes, a statement that has drawn widespread condemnation for its misogynistic tone. Naik, a fugitive known for promoting radical ideologies, is notorious for inciting hatred and extremism, with his rhetoric linked to the 2016 Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Bangladesh, and more recent unrest in the country.

In his latest remarks, made during a recent visit to Pakistan, Naik continued his pattern of inflammatory speech, this time targeting women. Critics argue that his views reflect a deep-seated misogyny masked as religious preaching, as he demeans women who do not conform to traditional marital roles. His inability to recognize women’s autonomy and rights beyond marriage has sparked outrage, with activists and leaders globally condemning his statements.

Dr. Abraham Mathai, Chairman of the Harmony Foundation and former Vice-Chairman of the Minorities Commission, expressed strong condemnation of Naik’s remarks, calling them an insult not only to Pakistani women but to women worldwide. “Women deserve freedom, independence, and the ability to make their own choices, including the choice of marriage,” Mathai said. “Zakir Naik’s comments are dehumanizing and harmful, and his hate-filled rhetoric should be condemned by Muslims everywhere.”

Naik’s presence in Malaysia has also raised concerns, with critics urging the Malaysian government to expel him. Dr. Mathai highlighted the urgency of curbing Naik’s influence, warning that his extremist ideology has the potential to radicalize vulnerable youth. “Malaysia must make its stance on extremism clear by deporting Zakir Naik immediately,” Mathai added, calling on Malaysian women to press their government to take action.

The global backlash against Naik continues to grow, as more voices call for stronger measures to prevent his divisive rhetoric from spreading further.
