Navi Mumbai: Around 1.5 tons of waste—mostly plastic bottles and dry garbage—was swiftly collected and cleared by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) after the Legends El Clasico football match held on Sunday night at D.Y. Patil Stadium. Despite the massive crowd turnout, the surrounding area was found clean by early morning, earning appreciation from morning walkers and local residents.
Understanding the scale of the event, NMMC had put in place a pre-planned cleanliness strategy under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. The Solid Waste Management Department, led on-ground by Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ajay Gadade, executed the cleanup operation from 11 PM to 3 AM post-match.
Over 40 sanitation workers were deployed, and the operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar. Officers, including Arun Patil (Sanitation Officer, Nerul Division), Inspectors Milind Ambekar, Navnath Thombre, and Bhushan Sutar, along with other supervisors, waste transport managers, and cleanliness ambassadors, played an active role in the drive.
The cleanup team successfully ensured that all waste was transported to the city’s waste management facility before sunrise. Senior officials, including Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner Somnath Potre and Assistant Commissioner of Nerul Division Jayant Jawdekar, also contributed to the operation.
The efficient post-event cleanliness effort set an example of prompt urban management, leaving citizens pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the NMMC’s swift response.
