RTO Cracks Down on Unsafe School Vehicles, Imposes Rs 5.6 Lakh in Fines

Date:

Navi Mumbai: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has ramped up efforts to ensure the safety of students commuting to school with a special focus on vehicles transporting children. Through a targeted inspection campaign, the RTO has examined 675 vehicles from April to December 2024, identifying 80 vehicles with violations. As a result, fines totaling Rs 5.6 lakh were imposed on the offending vehicles.

Navi Mumbai, home to a large number of private educational institutions, sees a significant number of school buses and vans operating across the city. Currently, 1,174 school buses and vans are registered with the RTO for student transportation.

In addition to these registered vehicles, there are concerns about the illegal transportation of students. To address this, the RTO has made student safety a top priority, with a special focus on enforcing traffic regulations.

In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of safe travel, the RTO is organizing special camps for drivers. The office is also running a special campaign to crack down on vehicles that fail to comply with traffic rules. With these measures, the RTO is committed to enhancing safety standards and ensuring safer journeys for school children in the region.
