Road Accident Deaths in The State Rise to 42 Daily

The number of road accidents in Maharashtra has increased in 2024 compared to 2023, with the death toll surpassing 15,000 in just one year. This means an average of 42 people lose their lives daily in road accidents across the state.

Accidents on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway have increased by 19%, while accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway have seen a slight decrease of 4%, according to data from the highway police.

Nine districts and cities have reported an increase of over 10% in deaths. Dhule district has seen the highest rise in road accident fatalities, with a 25% increase.

Statewide Road Accidents and Deaths

  • In 2023: 15,366 deaths and 35,243 injuries.
  • In 2024: 15,335 deaths and 36,084 injuries.
  • In just one year, 841 more accidents were recorded.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway

  • In 2023: 154 injuries and 65 deaths
  • In 2024: 184 injuries and 82 deaths

The fatality rate on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has increased by 26%.
