Panvel: In a firm move to recover pending property tax dues, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a large-scale seizure operation against defaulters. The crackdown targets factories in Taloja MIDC and hotels and lodges in Kalamboli, marking a significant step in enforcing tax compliance.
Acting under the directives of Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale, PMC officials had earlier issued pre-seizure notices to defaulters, giving them seven days to clear their dues. However, as many failed to comply, the corporation has now started confiscation proceedings. So far, PMC has issued 447 pre-seizure notices and 27 warrant notices, causing alarm among property owners with outstanding dues. Officials warn that the drive will intensify in the coming weeks.
To speed up tax collection, PMC has reinforced its recovery teams under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge and Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir. Additional manpower is being deployed to ensure swift enforcement. The municipal corporation has also reminded defaulters that a 2% monthly penalty applies to unpaid property tax, adding to their financial burden.
Meanwhile, PMC’s recent awareness campaigns have encouraged more citizens to settle their tax dues, leading to a notable rise in payments. The civic body, which oversees 3.5 lakh registered properties, has made digital payment options available through the ‘PMC TAX APP’ and its online portal (www.panvelmc.org), allowing citizens to pay conveniently.
For further assistance, property owners can contact the PMC toll-free helpline at 1800-5320-340. The corporation has urged all defaulters to clear their outstanding dues immediately to avoid stricter action.
