PMC Crosses Rs 400 Crore Tax Collection For the First Time Since Established in 2016

Date:

Panvel: The Property Tax Department of the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set a new record by collecting Rs 412 crore in revenue for the financial year 2024-25. This is the first time since its establishment in 2016 that PMC has surpassed the Rs 400 crore mark in property tax collections.

In March, to facilitate tax payments, the property tax department, led by Swaroop Kharge and Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, ensured that all four municipal zones remained operational even on weekends. “Employees worked tirelessly without leave, keeping offices open on Saturdays and Sundays until the financial year-end. To prevent financial losses to the corporation, direct action was taken against commercial property tax defaulters, with 13 dedicated teams deployed across various zones under the leadership of zonal officers,” said Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale.

Since property tax is a key revenue source for development projects, PMC intensified its collection drive, especially in CIDCO-transferred areas, Panvel Industrial Estate, Marble Market, Jawahar Industrial Estate, and Taloja Industrial Estate. Defaulters who had received seizure notices were further issued warrant notices, and strict recovery actions led to a significant surge in collections.

During March, daily property tax collections ranged between Rs 1 crore and Rs 5 crore. On March 19, PMC surpassed last year’s record with a historic collection. In the previous financial year, PMC had collected Rs 360 crore by March 31, but this year, the milestone was reached 10 days in advance.

PMC has assured property owners that their grievances and objections regarding tax bills will be addressed, and necessary corrections will be made as required. The corporation has urged citizens to clear their dues promptly and contribute to the development of Panvel.
