With over 50,000 pharmacy aspirants in Mumbai, finally the admission is open after months of delaying it. More than half of the college in Mumbai lacked permission from the Pharmacy Council Of India (PCI) which is the apex regulatory body for pharma courses in the country. PCI is responsible for setting the minimum education standards for pharmacists, registering pharmacists under the Pharmacy Act and also for approving institutions that offer pharmacy education. So this lack of permission from PCI delayed the admission process worrying the pharma aspirants.
After the granting of approvals, majority of colleges over 430 were added to the first round of Centralised Admission Process (CAP). Total 50,117 aspirants registered for the admissions this year. Till Monday students were asked to only fill the option forms as the provisional merit list is set to be released on Thursday for the round one. As last year 453 colleges were being the part, colleges which receives permission after on will be added in the second round of admission process as reported by TOI.
