Over 9,000 Residents Benefit from NMMC’s Anti-Malaria and Dengue Initiative

Date:

In an effort to curb the spread of malaria and dengue within its jurisdiction, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) organized special awareness camps on the occasion of Maha Shivratri on February 26, 2025. Under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the Health Department conducted these camps across multiple temple premises in the city to educate citizens about mosquito-borne diseases and their prevention.

The initiative aimed to sensitize the public regarding mosquito breeding sites and the importance of maintaining hygiene in and around their homes. Similar awareness efforts were also carried out on February 24 at the District Sessions Court in Sector 15, CBD, where judges, lawyers, officers, staff, and visitors were briefed about malaria and dengue prevention.

Despite routine mosquito control measures such as daily larvicidal spraying and fogging, the civic body emphasized that citizen participation is crucial in tackling these diseases. During the camps, live demonstrations showcased mosquito larvae and their breeding sites, highlighting the role of stagnant water in spreading infections. Residents were advised to cover water storage containers, clean them weekly, and dispose of discarded items like old tires and plastic sheets to prevent water accumulation.

A total of 9,258 citizens attended the awareness camps, and 146 blood samples were collected for testing. At the District Sessions Court, 411 individuals benefited from the initiative. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde urged residents to take proactive steps in eliminating mosquito breeding grounds to ensure a healthier Navi Mumbai.
