Over 2,200 Women Run for a Cleaner Navi Mumbai on International Women’s Day

Navi Mumbai: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, more than 2,200 women participated in the Women’s Mini Marathon to promote cleanliness and a healthier lifestyle in Navi Mumbai. Organized by Dr. D.Y. Patil Deemed to be University, School of Hospitality & Tourism Studies, in collaboration with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the event aimed to spread awareness about keeping the city clean.

With the theme “Run for Clean Navi Mumbai”, the marathon was conceptualized under the leadership of Dr. Vijay Patil, Chancellor and President of the university, alongside Vice President Dr. Shivani Patil and Mrs. Rajalakshmi Patil, Head of the D.Y. Patil Climate Action Lab. Recognizing the significance of this initiative, NMMC extended its support, with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde approving the event. The corporation played a crucial role in the execution under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Dr. Ajay Gadade.

The marathon was flagged off from the main entrance of Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium, located along the Sion-Panvel Highway, by Arjuna Award-winning athlete and NMMC Deputy Commissioner of Sports, Abhilasha Mhatre Patil.

In the competitive race, Damini Pednekar emerged as the winner, while Pratima Nasratna and Sujata Mane secured second and third place, respectively.

The 5-km marathon, organized under the “Ghe Bharari” (Take Flight) initiative, saw overwhelming participation, with women running to advocate for clean surroundings and a healthier future for Navi Mumbai.
