A state-of-the-art Orthopantomography (OPG) machine has recently been installed at KEM Hospital in Parel, which is run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This marks the first medical college under BMC to have this advanced facility. The machine is expected to play a significant role in improving dental diagnostics.
OPG is a specialized type of X-ray machine used to capture a panoramic image of the teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures. It allows for a comprehensive view of the entire jaw in a single image. With this technology, dental issues such as misalignment, tooth development, and missing teeth can be easily detected. It also helps in identifying fractures, bone abnormalities, and joint conditions.
Additionally, the machine can confirm the presence of dental diseases such as cavities, infections, cysts, and tumors. It will also prove to be useful in orthodontic and surgical planning, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and accuracy of dental treatments.
