THANE: Residents of Mumbra, Diva, Kalwa and parts of Wagle and Manpada can expect uninterrupted water supply through the Diwali festival, after the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) cancelled its weekly 36-hour shutdown scheduled for the next two Thursdays.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), MIDC informed the civic body that the shutdowns planned for Thursday, November 5, and Thursday, November 12, have been called off so that citizens are not left without water during the festival.
MIDC supplies water to the Mumbra, Diva, Kalwa, Majiwada-Manpada and parts of the Wagle ward committee areas within TMC limits. Following a state government decision, a 10 per cent water cut was imposed this year due to poor post-monsoon rainfall, the El Niño effect and the early withdrawal of the monsoon. Under this arrangement, supply from MIDC’s Jambhul water treatment plant is shut every week for 36 hours, from 12 midnight on Thursday to 12 noon on Saturday.
With the two shutdowns cancelled, water supply will continue as usual in Diva, Mumbra (except parts of ward nos. 26 and 31) and all areas of the Kalwa ward committee. Regular supply will also continue in Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2 and Nehru Nagar under the Wagle ward committee, and in Kolshet Khalcha Gaon under the Manpada ward committee.
The weekly shutdown schedule is expected to resume after the festival period unless MIDC announces otherwise.
