Digha: Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde conducted a thorough on-site inspection of the Digha ward on Tuesday, focusing on pre-monsoon preparedness and civic infrastructure improvements. The visit follows directives issued during a recent Urban Disaster Management Committee meeting, where Dr. Shinde emphasized the need to complete all pre-monsoon works by May 15.
During the inspection, Dr. Shinde reviewed the desilting and cleaning of a major nullah behind Green World and instructed officials to ensure its thorough maintenance. He also noted the large-scale dumping of debris on MIDC land adjacent to the nullah. He directed the municipal team to collaborate with MIDC to control and stop the illegal dumping.
Addressing concerns at the underpass near Mukand Company, opposite Digha Railway Station, Dr. Shinde observed that a slightly elevated footpath built in the area was helping pedestrians navigate safely, especially during the monsoon season. He directed that the footpath be extended up to Sathe Nagar and that the adjacent compound wall be lengthened accordingly. He added that encroachments obstructing the extension must be removed.
The Commissioner also instructed civic officials to clean and beautify a neglected patch of land near the railway tracks beside the nullah, across from Green World. He emphasized the need to complete the broken footpath along Thane-Belapur Road up to the Mukand underpass to ensure uninterrupted pedestrian movement.
To support this work, Dr. Shinde ordered the relocation of the existing water pump to a nearby park corner and suggested replacing the community toilet in the area with a permanent RCC structure for long-term use.
Municipal officials present during the visit were directed to expedite the ongoing works to meet the mid-May deadline and ensure Digha ward is fully prepared for the upcoming monsoon.
