Navi Mumbai: In a decisive action against unauthorized constructions, the Encroachment Department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Nerul area and removed around 50 huts and several food stalls. The action was taken under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.
The operation targeted large-scale unauthorized hutments and illegal food stalls in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, a part of the MIDC area in Nerul, where complaints had been raised about encroachments. The NMMC took swift action and demolished approximately 50 huts, several food stalls, and paan shops on April 28, 2025. The operation also extended to the Shrikrishna Bhojanalay Hotel located near the water pipeline in D-block, where illegal structures were removed.
During the operation, authorities confiscated a significant amount of equipment, including 10 gas cylinders, 2-3 sacks of onions and potatoes, 38 chairs, 3 table fans, 3 stoves, 3 frying pans, 1 German frying pan, and paan stall materials, which were all deposited at the Koparkhairane dumping ground.
The operation was carried out with the support of Nerul Division’s Assistant Commissioner Mr. Jayant Javadekar, Junior Engineer Mr. Sanjay Sontakke, the Encroachment Police Headquarters team, and local police. The team was assisted by 14 laborers, 1 JCB, 1 dumper, and 2 pickup vans to clear the area of encroachments.
The NMMC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the city.
