Navi Mumbai Cracks Down on Tree Damage—Hotels Fined ₹20,000 Total

Date:

Turbhe: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken strict action against two hotels in Turbhe for damaging roadside trees by installing decorative lights. Hotel Nanumal in Sector 18 and Hotel Deviprasad in Sector 19 were each fined ₹10,000, totaling ₹20,000 in penalties.

The action comes in response to a growing concern over environmental harm caused by unauthorized tree decorations. Despite repeated public appeals from the NMMC’s Tree Authority urging citizens and businesses not to nail objects or install lights on trees, violations continue to surface.

Under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Mr. Sagar More, and with guidance from the Garden Department (Circle 1) Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kisanrao Palande, the flying squad of the Turbhe ward conducted the inspection and imposed the fines.

This enforcement follows Resolution No. 7461, passed by the Tree Authority on January 27, 2025. The resolution empowers the administration to levy fines of ₹10,000 per tree on individuals or establishments causing damage to trees through actions like nailing or decorative lighting.

The NMMC has announced plans to intensify its crackdown, launching a special campaign across all eight ward divisions to curb such environmentally harmful practices. Citizens and businesses are urged to refrain from damaging trees and to support the city’s efforts in environmental conservation.

The municipal authority has warned that failure to comply will result in strict punitive action moving forward.
