Postgraduate students and doctors at Nair Dental College and Hospital will now be trained in hair transplant and facial aesthetics. After completing their training, this service will be made available to the public soon. These procedures are usually expensive, but since this is a BMC-run hospital, the treatment will be more affordable compared to private hospitals.
For the first time in history, a BMC hospital will offer hair transplant and facial aesthetic (non-surgical treatments for facial enhancement) services. Hair loss has become a common problem, and premature hair loss often affects an individual’s self-confidence. To help maintain self-esteem and enhance facial beauty without surgery, Nair Dental College and Hospital is set to become an excellent and affordable option in the near future.
Dr. Neelam Andrade, Director of BMC Medical Colleges and Major Hospitals and Dean of Nair Dental College, stated that facial aesthetics and hair transplant procedures are new advancements in dentistry. These procedures have been approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI) for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) and are also part of the DCI curriculum, making it essential to provide training in these fields.
To facilitate this, the hospital has appointed an honorary hair transplant expert and a facial aesthetics expert for one year. These experts will train postgraduate OMFS students and faculty members. Once the training is complete, the hospital will start treating patients independently. Additionally, trained students will be able to perform these procedures after completing their postgraduate studies.
Interested Individuals Can Join Training Sessions
Dr. Neelam also mentioned that individuals interested in hair transplant procedures can voluntarily participate during the training period. While the hospital has the necessary equipment, participants will need to bear some expenses for medicines and other essentials. Nair Dental College can perform 2,500 to 3,000 grafts in one session, costing around ₹10,000. In contrast, private centers charge lakhs of rupees for similar procedures.
