Mumbai Tops in Fraud Cases, Rs 12,404.12 Crore Lost in 51,873 Incidents

Maharashtra recorded 2,19,047 financial fraud cases last year, with victims losing a staggering ₹38,872.14 crore. According to data shared by the state’s Home Department, Mumbai topped the list in such cases.

Mumbai witnessed the highest number of fraud cases, with 51,873 incidents reported, resulting in losses of ₹12,404.12 crore. Following Mumbai, Pune city recorded 22,059 cases, where fraudsters swindled victims out of ₹5,122.66 crore.

In Pune district, a total of 42,802 fraud cases were registered, including 16,115 cases (₹3,291.25 crore) in Pimpri-Chinchwad and 4,628 cases (₹434.35 crore) in rural areas.

Thane district reported 35,388 fraud cases in a year. In Thane city alone, 20,892 cases were registered. Similarly, Navi Mumbai saw 13,260 cases, while Thane rural recorded 1,236 cases. The total financial loss in these two regions amounted to ₹8,583.61 crore. Additionally, in the Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar areas, 11,754 fraud cases resulted in losses of ₹1,431.18 crore.

In Nagpur, 11,875 fraud cases were recorded in the city, while 1,620 cases were reported in rural areas, leading to a total loss of ₹1,491.07 crore. Nashik district saw 6,381 cases in urban areas and 2,788 cases in rural areas, with victims losing ₹1,047.32 crore in total.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district registered 6,090 fraud cases amounting to ₹543.61 crore, while Amravati reported 2,778 cases with losses totaling ₹223.059 crore. In Solapur, 3,457 cases were reported, with fraudsters cheating victims out of ₹394.54 crore.

Other districts that reported significant fraud cases include Buldhana (1,531 cases, ₹239.19 crore loss), Chandrapur (1,792 cases, ₹175.39 crore loss), and Latur (1,624 cases, ₹240.45 crore loss).

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious financial activities immediately.
