The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) achieved a key milestone on Friday with the arrival of the trial train at Cuffe Parade, the final station of the city’s first underground metro line. This marks a crucial step toward the full commissioning of the Aqua Line 3 by July 2025.
Currently, the 12.69 km Phase 1 stretch from Aarey JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is operational since October 7, 2024. The 9.77 km Phase 2 segment from Dharavi to Acharya Atrey Chowk in Worli is undergoing system trials. The latest trial covers the 10.99 km Phase 3 stretch from Acharya Atrey Chowk to Cuffe Parade, paving the way for seamless connectivity.
With major works like Overhead Catenary System (OCS) and track installation completed, MMRC is now focused on final system fitments, architectural finishes, and road restoration.
MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide stated, “Today is a crucial day for us as we move closer to completing another challenging milestone. Train trials between Dharavi and Acharya Atrey Chowk are in full swing, and We are committed to commissioning the entire line by July 2025.”
The introduction of crossovers at Acharya Atrey Chowk and CSMT will ensure smoother train reversals, enhancing operational efficiency. Once fully operational, the Aqua Line will significantly ease commuting between Cuffe Parade, Worli, and BKC, providing a faster, more reliable transport option for Mumbaikars.
