Mithun Chakraborty Gets BMC Notice Over Illegal Construction in Malad

Date:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show-cause notice to Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly constructing unauthorized ground floor structures on a plot in Erangal village, located in the Madh area of Malad.

The notice, dated May 10, asks the actor to provide a valid explanation for the construction, warning that the structures will be demolished at his own risk and cost if the explanation is not satisfactory.

Last week, the BMC began an anti-encroachment drive in the Madh area, during which nearly 130 illegal constructions were discovered. These included bungalow-like structures allegedly built using forged maps. On May 9, around nine such structures were already demolished in areas like Erangal village.

Senior BMC officials have stated that all 130 unauthorized constructions built in the Madh area over the past year will be removed by May 31. During the inspection, the civic body identified several illegal structures, including one on a plot near Hiradevi Temple on Bhaskar Bhopi Marg in Erangal village. The structure was found to be constructed without proper permissions and included brick walls, wooden and glass partition walls, and a roof made of AC sheets.

According to the BMC, the construction violates Sections 337, 342, and 347 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888. The actor has been asked to respond with sufficient reasons within seven days from the date of receiving the notice. The BMC has made it clear that if the response is not satisfactory, the structures will be demolished at the owner’s risk and expense.
