We are moving towards smart policing – Madhukar Pandey, VVMB Police Commissioner

The traffic department under Mira-Bhayander and Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate has now taken a step forward technologically and equipped its policemen with state-of-the-art body worn cameras. Under this new initiative, policemen will now be able to monitor traffic through live cameras during duty.

These cameras have modern facilities like SIM card, GPS, audio and video recording. Through this, it will be possible to observe the traffic situation in real time from the control room, which will help in quick decision and control.

Madhukar Pandey, VVMB Police Commissioner, said,” Under smart policing, with the help of technology, data analysis, and modern equipment, we are making the department more effective, transparent and accountable. Its objective is to improve law and order, prevent crime and ensure the safety of citizens.”

Another feature of these cameras is that they have the ability to store recordings for up to 30 days, which will prove to be extremely useful during the investigation of any incident. Also, policemen will be able to share the location with their colleagues through messages, and can also use the SOS button in case of emergency.

At present, the traffic department has received a total of 200 body worn cameras, out of which 20 cameras have been distributed so far. The remaining cameras will soon be distributed to various traffic divisions. This initiative of the traffic department will not only make the traffic system more smart and robust, but is also considered an important step towards increasing transparency between the police and the common citizens.
