A major scam has been uncovered in Uttar Pradesh’s ‘Janani Suraksha Yojana‘ (JSY), revealing shocking instances of fraudulent childbirth records. According to reports, over 20 women were shown to have delivered babies five times within a single year — a clear indication of manipulation and corruption within the system.

One case from the audit report states that Geeta Devi was shown to have delivered 10 times between February 4 and August 29, 2023, receiving Rs 14,000 in her account. Another woman, Aarti, was falsely listed as having delivered three times between August 29 and November 22, 2022, with Rs 4,200 transferred to her.
The government’s audit report, covering the period from 2021 to 2024, uncovered approximately Rs 38.95 lakh in fraudulent payments made under the JSY and sterilization incentive schemes. The most severe irregularities were found at the Fatehabad Community Health Center (CHC), where around Rs 19.65 lakh was misappropriated.
These fraudulent entries also included fake sterilization procedures. According to officials, over 20 women had repeated entries every couple of months, revealing a well-organized scam. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Arun Srivastava confirmed that FIRs have been registered against five individuals involved in the case.
Reacting to the scandal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the ruling BJP government, stating, “This is a clear example of how deeply corruption runs under the BJP regime. In the name of ‘Janani Suraksha Yojana’, this scam shows that officials are colluding to siphon off public funds.”
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the monitoring and implementation of welfare schemes in the state.
