Mumbai: The Maratha agitation led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil finally reached a conclusion on Tuesday, with the government announcing that it accepts the Hyderabad Gazette as the basis for issuing Kunbi caste certificates. According to the committee’s assurance, villagers, relatives, and clan records will be verified before Kunbi certificates are issued. Jarange assured the High Court that most of his supporters had either left Mumbai or would leave by Tuesday. He appealed to the authorities to withdraw the fines of Rs 5,000 imposed on vehicles, saying, “We do not even know the routes of Mumbai. The government has agreed to our demands. We will celebrate before leaving from here. The moment the government issues the GR (government resolution), we will end our protest and mark it with colors.”

Jarange further announced that the families of those who lost their lives during the Maratha reservation movement would be given financial aid of Rs 15 crore. Initially, it was decided to provide jobs in the State Transport Corporation, but Jarange insisted this should be revised. “If the children of the victims are highly educated, they must be given government jobs,” he said.
