Maharashtra to Set Up Tourism Security Force for Tourist Safety

Date:

The Maharashtra government has announced the formation of the Maharashtra Tourism Security Force (MTSF) to enhance tourist safety. The force, also to be known as Tourist Mitra, will provide both security and information services to tourists across the state.

Shambhuraj Desai, State Tourism Minister

The decision, taken on Monday, comes in the wake of the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The initiative aims to offer a secure and welcoming environment for visitors while promoting the state’s rich cultural and geographical diversity.

Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai stated that the force would be deployed on a pilot basis during the Mahabaleshwar Utsav in Satara district, scheduled from May 2 to 4.

“This force will not only enhance tourist safety but also boost employment and tourism,” he said.

The primary objective of the MTSF will be to guide tourists with credible information about local destinations, heritage, and culture, while also ensuring their safety. Selected personnel will undergo special training to carry out their duties effectively, the minister mentioned.

As part of the plan, 25 personnel will be deployed through the Maharashtra State Security Corporation, under the supervision of the Satara Superintendent of Police. The deployment will be operational from April 25 to August 31, with full logistical support, including transportation and necessary infrastructure. All expenses will be borne by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
