To strengthen passenger security across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Maharashtra Government on Monday approved the establishment of four new police stations under the Railway Police jurisdiction.
According to a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Home Department, the new police stations will be set up at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Bhayandar, Ambernath, and Asangaon railway stations.
The decision follows a proposal sent by the Government Railway Police (GRP) seeking additional security measures amid increasing passenger load and rising crime rates on the Mumbai suburban railway network.
Railway Police officials highlighted that the surge in commuter numbers on the Mira Road-Bhayandar stretch and other key routes has led to a rise in crimes such as mobile thefts, luggage thefts, pickpocketing, and sexual harassment cases at railway stations.
The move is aimed at enhancing safety measures and ensuring better policing to curb criminal activities along the city’s vital transport lifeline.
