Panvel– The ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at providing tap water to every household in Panvel taluka, is facing serious setbacks. Despite multiple reviews and reprimands by BJP MLA from Panvel, the project’s progress remains sluggish.
According to official data, out of 133 projects under the scheme, only 14 have been fully completed, leaving thousands of residents struggling for access to clean water. The inefficiency came to light when residents of Adai village pursued information through the Right to Information (RTI) Act, frustrated with years of delays and unfulfilled promises.
For two years, Adai residents have been demanding that authorities expedite the ₹4.53 crore water supply project sanctioned for their area. However, pipeline work has not even begun, and only 12% of the overall project has been completed. The elevated water tank construction remains at a mere 4%, while gravity pipeline work is at 38% and the underground water tank is 85% complete. Shockingly, despite minimal progress, the contractor has already received ₹38 lakh in running bills.
Current Project Status in Panvel Taluka:
- 11 projects have seen just 0.25% progress.
- 25 projects are between 25%-50% complete.
- 44 projects are between 50%-75% complete.
- 16 projects are between 75%-95% complete.
- 6 projects are 96% complete, 1 project is 97% complete, and 3 projects are 98% complete.
- 13 projects have reached 99% completion.
Despite repeated assurances, the slow execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission has left residents questioning the commitment of the authorities. With Panvel taluka witnessing several major infrastructure projects, locals are demanding that basic necessities like water supply be prioritized.
