In response to concerns about dirty sheets and blankets being found in trains, Indian Railways will now take the help of artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to inspect and sort linens such as bed sheets and towels, that are given to passengers in air-conditioned coaches. This technology will be used in the mechanized laundry of various zones of the railways.
The AI-powered Linen Inspection and Sorting Assistant (LISA) was developed by the Pune division of Indian Railways and was recently inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav at the laundry facilities of the Ghorpadi Integrated Coaching Complex (GICC).
Designed to ensure 100% quality inspection
In mechanized laundry, the sheets are put on the conveyor system. Then they were made to pass through the detection area. High quality cameras take detailed pictures and the software identifies stains with 100 percent accuracy. Data collection is used in this. This system records the percentage of stains and torn sheets on each bed sheet, which ensures that passengers get clean sheets. Now it is being planned to be used in every laundry.
QR code on the linen packet
Pankaj Kumar Singh, CPRO of North Eastern Railway, said that for the satisfaction of passengers, a QR code has been given on the linen packet. By scanning it, you can see the complete railway linen cleaning procedure. A meter has been installed to check the whiteness of the bedsheet. The washing capacity of blankets has been increased. Feedback is taken from passengers in trains. An attendant has been appointed in every AC coach for quick distribution of bedrolls.
Washing of Millions of Bedsheets Daily
The Indian Railways washed millions of bedsheets every day. According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, 48,000 linen packets are prepare daily on the North Eastern Railway alone, and almost one lakh bedsheets are washed. To ensure proper cleanliness, 15 CCTV cameras have been installed in the laundry. Additionally, a control room has been set up to monitor the bedrolls in trains.
