Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has given 454 property tax defaulters a five-day deadline to clear their outstanding dues and avoid the auction of their properties. Notices have been issued, warning of strict action starting in April 2025.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has stated that failure to pay overdue property taxes will lead to the auctioning of seized properties. The civic body has already begun appointing government-approved valuers to assess these properties ahead of the auction.
Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, property tax defaulters are subject to legal action as per Section 128 and Rules 42 to 48, which allow for property seizure and subsequent auction.
The civic body has urged residents to take advantage of this scheme and settle their dues promptly to avoid property seizure and auction.
