Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO) has reported an impressive revenue collection of ₹392.48 crore for the financial year April 2024 to March 2025, achieving nearly 96% of its annual target set by the Maharashtra state government.
The revenue was generated through various streams, including new vehicle registrations, driving license fees, penalties for traffic violations, vehicle inspections, and environmental taxes. The RTO also ran a special enforcement campaign during the year, which significantly contributed to the high revenue collection.
Growing Targets Every Year
The state government assigns annual revenue targets to the RTO, typically increasing them by 10-15% each year. For 2024-25, Navi Mumbai RTO was given a target of ₹410 crore. Of this, ₹392 crore 48 lakh has already been collected, bringing the office remarkably close to meeting its full target.
Breakdown of Revenue Sources
The revenue includes road tax, traffic fines, permit fees, and license fees, all of which are used to improve transport infrastructure and services. The RTO operates several squads, including a special air-speed enforcement team, each assigned its own collection targets to ensure accountability.
Determined to Hit 100%
Assistant RTO Officer Narendra Modi and Gajanan Gawande attributed the success to the department’s proactive approach and efficient execution. “We are confident of achieving 100% of the target by the end of the current financial year,” they stated.
