Holi 2025: BMC To Take Strict Action Against Illegal Tree Cutting During Holi

Date:

Mumbai: With Holi set to be celebrated on March 13, 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a stern warning against tree-cutting during the festival. The civic body has made it clear that any unauthorized felling of trees will result in strict legal action, including fines and possible imprisonment.

BMC officials have urged citizens to refrain from tree-cutting and to report any such activities to the local police or the municipal authorities. In case of violations, complaints can be registered through the BMC’s toll-free helpline 1916.

Jitendra Pardeshi, Superintendent of Gardens and Member Secretary of the Tree Authority, emphasized that unauthorized tree felling is a punishable offense under Section 21 of the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. Those found guilty may face:

*A fine ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 per offense.
* Imprisonment from one week to one year in severe cases.

BMC has urged Mumbaikars to actively contribute to maintaining the city’s greenery by protecting and nurturing trees. “Every citizen must preserve nature and safeguard trees that provide us with oxygen. We request full cooperation from the public,” Pardeshi added.

Citizens are encouraged to be vigilant and report tree-cutting incidents immediately to help keep Mumbai’s environment green and sustainable.
