Geo-Tagging Mandatory for All Schools by April 30

Date:

The Maharashtra government has mandated that all schools in the state must complete geo-tagging by April 30. This initiative aims to collect detailed information about the facilities and infrastructure available in schools, which will help in better policy planning and decision-making.

Currently, basic data such as student enrollment, teachers, and available facilities is recorded on the UDISE+ portal. However, key information like the geographic distribution of schools, local infrastructure, and population density is still lacking.

To bridge this gap, school principals are now required to submit detailed information through the Maha School GIS app. This includes uploading the school’s GIS location along with photos of the main building, kitchen, sanitation facilities, toilets, and drinking water arrangements.

What is Geo-Tagging?

Geo-tagging is the process of digitally marking the geographic location of a place or object using coordinates like latitude and longitude. This provides precise information about the physical location of a site.
