Dr Abraham Mathai, Founder-Chairman of the Harmony Foundation and former Vice-Chairman of the State Minorities Commission, in a joint operation with DCP Crime Branch Mr Vishal Thakur and an NGO named Exodus India, led by Mr. Shyam Kamble, successfully rescued the 15 -year-old child and the trafficker Vaishali Kadam has been arrested. The girl was studying in Thakkar Bapa BMC School in Kurla East and is in the 9th STD and is currently living with her mother and her elder sister who is 17 years old.
He emphasized the urgent need for stricter laws, better enforcement, and widespread awareness to prevent such tragedies. Society must take collective responsibility to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure that traffickers are held accountable. He also stressed that human trafficking is one of the most horrifying crimes, as it can deeply impact the future of the girl child.
Dr Mathai made a pivotal statement, saying, “I feel it is high time that civil society awakens and comes forward to help rescue innocent young children.” He also expressed his concerns regarding these victims’ mental health and how trafficking creates traumatic experiences that can last a lifetime.
He further asserted that these innocent children are forced, helpless, and have no choice but to keep hope in their hearts that, somewhere, somehow, they can be saved. He stressed, “The rescue of this 15 -year-old girl is a relief, but countless others remain trapped in similar situations. It is a wake-up call. While one life has been saved, we should strive to save even more lives.”
In conclusion, Dr Abraham Mathai stated that the successful rescue of this young girl is a step in the right direction, but the fight against human trafficking is far from over. He urges society to remain vigilant, take action, and work together to protect these vulnerable children and a future free from such horrors.
