EOW Summons BookMyShow CEO in Coldplay Concert Ticket Black Marketing Probe

Date:

Mumbai — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment Private Limited (BookMyShow’s parent company), along with the company’s technical head. This follows allegations of black marketing regarding tickets for the highly anticipated Coldplay concert set to take place at DY Patil Sports Stadium in January 2025.

The summons were prompted by a complaint from advocate Vyas, who accuses BookMyShow of conspiring to facilitate ticket scalping. The complaint claims that genuine fans were deprived of tickets despite enduring lengthy virtual queues on the platform.

A senior EOW officer confirmed that a preliminary inquiry has been initiated. Hemrajani and the technical head are scheduled to appear before the investigating officer on Saturday to provide statements. The inquiry aims to determine whether a cognizable offense was committed. Should evidence be found, it may escalate into a formal FIR; if not, the case could be closed.

In response, a BookMyShow spokesperson stated, “We implemented a queueing system to manage overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious traffic swiftly, ensuring minimal disruption for genuine fans. Due to high demand, we even added a third show, which received a fantastic response.”

Coldplay’s concerts are set for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at DY Patil Sports Stadium, with tickets selling out rapidly, resulting in a significant buzz among fans.
